Abstract
In this chapter, we introduce some key lessons learnt throughout the book about integrating quantitative and qualitative research approaches. We show how this mixing of methods enables the amalgamation of different worldviews and methodological approaches for capturing the dynamics and complexity of sustainability. We begin this final chapter by revisiting sustainability as a complex and transdisciplinary field, and then venture to elaborate further as to why mixed methods research (MMR) lends itself well as a research instrument to better understand the field of sustainability and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). The final part of this chapter also recognises the importance of reporting the findings and analysis of MMR, especially using graphical illustrations. Although our focus in this book has been to inform researchers and policymakers about effective ways to research sustainability in SMEs, the lessons learnt and discussed within this chapter also broadly inform us about endeavours to better understand business sustainability.
