Biography
Dr Yulin Li is a Lecturer in Business (Accounting) in the Faculty of Business, Law and Arts at Southern Cross University, based at the Gold Coast campus. He joined Southern Cross University in 2026 as a full-time, continuing academic. His role encompasses teaching, curriculum development, research, and academic service within the discipline. Dr Li completed his PhD in Finance at the University of Adelaide in 2023. He also holds a Master of Professional Accounting from the University of Adelaide and an MSc in International Finance from Nottingham Trent University (UK). Prior to joining Southern Cross University, he taught extensively at the University of Adelaide across undergraduate and postgraduate programs.

Research
Dr Li’s research is situated in corporate finance and corporate governance. His primary research interests include executive compensation, within-firm pay disparity, governance mechanisms, and firm-level risk. His work examines how compensation structures and governance arrangements influence managerial behaviour and corporate outcomes. Dr Li’s research adopts rigorous empirical methods and draws on large-scale archival datasets. His work aims to contribute to academic debates while also offering insights relevant to investors, regulators, and policy makers.
Teaching
Dr Li has broad teaching experience in accounting and finance across undergraduate and postgraduate levels. During his time at the University of Adelaide, his teaching focused on corporate finance, financial analysis, and applied financial modelling. He has substantial experience in course and curriculum design. At Southern Cross University, Dr Li teaches undergraduate accounting units across onshore and offshore delivery, including:
- ACCT1001 – Financial Literacy for Business (Dual Term 2)
- ACCT1002 – Financial Accounting (Term 1 and Dual Term 2)
Other
Dr Li is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA®) Charterholder, a Financial Risk Manager (FRM), and a Certified Practising Accountant (CPA Australia). He actively integrates data analytics, real-world financial datasets, and industry-relevant tools into both his teaching and research to enhance student learning outcomes and graduate employability.
