Biography

Tomoaki Kashiwao received the B.E., M.E., and D.Eng. degrees from Tokushima University, Japan, in 2003, 2005, and 2009, respectively. He has been an Associate Professor at Kindai University, Japan since 2018. From 2005 to 2010, he worked as an engineer at Nichia Corporation, Japan. From 2010 to 2018, he served as an Assistant and Associate Professor at the National Institute of Technology (KOSEN), Niihama College, Japan. He was a Visiting Fellow at Southern Cross University, Australia, in 2015–2016, and is currently serving again in this role since 2024.

Research

His research interests include:

  • LED packaging design optimization using soft computing and metaheuristic algorithms
  • Application of machine learning (MLP, RF, SVM, CNN, etc.) to optical property prediction and yield improvement in manufacturing
  • Energy harvesting circuit design and performance analysis
  • Applied research in electronic and optical systems, integrating experimental measurements and computational modelling
  • Collaborative projects with industry partners in Japan

Teaching

  • Undergraduate and postgraduate courses in electronics, optical and control engineering
  • Supervision of B.E., M.E., and Ph.D. research projects in optical engineering and ML applications
  • Development of experimental laboratory courses on electrical, electronic and communication engineering
  • Mentorship of students for academic publication and conference presentation
