Biography

Maree is a Midwife with 37 years of clinical and 18 years of academic experience. Maree has also been a Certified Lactation Consultant since 1995. Maree was the Course Coordinator for the Bachelor of Midwifery at SCU from 2010 – 2016 and again in 2019 – 2020.

Research

Maree has both national and international research experience. This is demonstrated through presenting at conferences and publications. Maree has a strong interest in woman centred care and the perinatal mental health of women during childbearing globally. The incorporation of research and teaching is integral to her practice as an academic.

Teaching

Maree teaches into the Bachelor of Midwifery degree with a particular interest in perinatal mental health, woman centred care and breastfeeding. Maree has developed a suite of Breastfeeding/lactation teaching tools that are used through-out the curricula. The preparation of students for workforce readiness is also a key area of interest.

Other

Maree has been a member of the Australian College of Midwives (ACM), and was the Chair of MEAC (subcommittee of ACM). Maree has held several service positions within the SHHS including: Chair of School Board, SHHS Executive Committee, School representative for Academic Board and the Accreditation Committee and the position of Academic Integrity Officer for the SHHS.
