Biography and expertise

Claire McLisky is a non-Indigenous Australian historian who lives and works on Bundjalung country on the north coast of New South Wales, Australia. Her current historical work focuses on settler-colonial history-writing. Previously she has worked as a senior researcher on the ARC Indigenous Discovery Project 'Lawful Relations', and in her postdoctoral project on the histories and legacies of colonial Christian missions in Australia, Denmark and Greenland. Her PhD considered the subjectivities of Australian settler-colonial missionaries Daniel and Janet Matthews, and she has published articles and book chapters on historiography, humanitarianism, settler colonialism, the role of emotions in Christian missions. She is the co-editor of Emotions and Christian Missions: Historical Perspectives (with Karen Vallgårda and Daniel Midena, 2015) and Creating White Australia (with Jane Carey, 2009).
