Biography

Dr. Christos Markopoulos is a dedicated educator and researcher with extensive experience in mathematics education for undergraduate and postgraduate students in both Europe and Australia. Currently an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Education, he has developed and taught Mathematical Education units for pre-service teachers. Since joining SCU, Dr. Markopoulos has made significant contributions in teaching, research, service, and academic citizenship. He has designed and developed mathematics and numeracy units for education students, helping them overcome math anxiety and achieve impressive results, with SCU's success rate in the numeracy component of LANTITE being among the highest in the sector. Dr. Markopoulos was awarded the 2017 Vice Chancellor's Citation for Outstanding Contribution to Student Learning. His research, which focuses on enhancing mathematics education, has significantly impacted Mathematics Education and related disciplines, and he has established international collaborations with researchers in the US, Canada, and Greece. Recently appointed as Director of Higher Degree Research Training (DHDRT) at the Faculty of Education at SCU, A/Prof. Christos Markopoulos focuses on enhancing HDR performance and completion rates and attracting high-quality HDR candidates.
