Biography

Angela Turner is an Adjunct Senior Lecturer and Member of the Emeritus Faculty at Southern Cross University. She has over 20 years of teaching and research experience in higher education. Angela also has Tertiary and Further Education (TAFE) and secondary high school teaching experience. Her project collaborations in rural primary and secondary high schools have advanced teaching, learning and assessment in the classroom as an ongoing educational enterprise.

Research

Angela’s research involves project-based, inquiry-driven cross-cultural food settings. She is particularly interested in the symbiotic relationship between humans, technology, and the environment. Her research has received competitive grant success for actively forming university-school community engagement with rural and remote primary and secondary school communities.

Teaching

Angela's teaching extends across multiple core and discipline units at undergraduate and postgraduate levels in the Faculty of Education.

She has also developed curricula and taught in the Le Cordon Bleu Master of Gastronomy (Food and Wine Technology), each with diverse pedagogical content, assessment design and delivery needs. Angela is a pioneer in the Faculty of Education for online multi-modal teaching approaches (Asynchronous and Synchronous distance learning) that utilise a repertoire of authentic assessment tasks where students engage in real-life issues and problems as enablers to extend students’ critical thinking and practical skills driven by sound pedagogical principles. She has also contributed to the scholarship of teaching at postgraduate levels (PhD and Masters).

Recognition for integrating the domains of teaching and research in online course design awarded through a Southern Cross University Vice Chancellor’s Teaching Citation (2018); School of Education Recognition Award (2018); Australian College of Educators Award (2017); Finalist Outstanding Alumnus of the Year (2017) and an SCU Teacher Commendation Nominee (2015).
