Biography

Dr Andrew Grigg is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the Environmental Geochemistry and Mineralogy group at Southern Cross University. In his research, Andrew aims to understand the mobility of pollutants and nutrients in the environment, by uncovering the molecular biogeochemical processes that drive element cycling in soil and aquatic environments. Andrew applies novel experimental techniques from soil science, environmental geochemistry and environmental mineralogy, and integrates laboratory and field studies with advanced spectroscopy techniques and isotope tracers. Andrew has a particular interest in the effect of iron biogeochemical cycling in redox-active environments on metal mobility in the environment. His latest research probes the biogeochemical processes that occur in acid sulfate soils and acid mine drainage, including the effects of iron mineral formation and transformation on the mobility of metals such as aluminium.
