Biography

Professor Amanda Reichelt-Brushett is a Professor in the Faculty of Science and Engineering at SCU with extensive experience in investigating human impacts on the environment.

Professor Reichelt-Brushett is a member of SCU's Research Clusters:

  • Catchments, Coasts and Communities
  • ZeroWaste

Research

Amanda’s research focuses on understanding the sources, impacts, and management of environmental contaminants. Her work spans ecotoxicology, risk assessment, sediment and water quality, sustainable practices, and ecosystem restoration. She also explores land–sea interactions and catchment management. Amanda collaborates with Asia-Pacific communities to address local pollution issues and is actively involved in improving the health of the Richmond River through her leadership in the Richmond RiverKeeper organisation.

Community Engagement

Amanda has advised landholder groups in PNG on the impacts of deep-sea mine tailings disposal. Her recent research, in collaboration with the University of Pattimura, focuses on mercury pollution from small-scale gold mining in Indonesia.

Supervision

Amanda has supervised numerous PhD, Honours and Masters students, providing dedicated, high‑quality research training.

Teaching

Amanda has taught subjects including Chemistry, Ecology, Aquaculture, Pollution, Waste and Catchment Management, and Environmental Chemistry.
