Biography

Dr Allyson Wilson, BN, BHHS (Hons), MClinSc (MHN), MN (Adv Pract), PhD, is a credentialed mental health nurse, educator, and researcher. Allyson has a passion for trauma-informed care, her work centres on exploring entrenched norms of biomedical reductionism and systemic bias in psychiatry. Her academic and clinical background is grounded in a human rights lens and a mission to critique and reform the coercive and institutionalised foundations of mental health care in Australia.

Research

Allyson’s research focuses on trauma informed care and her scholarship is unapologetically critical of the legal and institutional frameworks that perpetuate control. She seeks to amplify the voices of lived and living experience and promote models that centre on humanistic approaches to care.

Teaching

Allyson teaching experience and style is based on adult learning principles and experiential components of life experiences. Her teaching encourages uncomfortable truths in a dialogical, reflective way, centred on social justice.

Other

Allyson actively contributes to policy discourse, professional development, and advocacy efforts across sectors and mental health nursing. She continues to push for transformative change from both within and outside.
