Abstract

block model block teaching immersive block curriculum reform academic leadership
This project showcases contemporary examples of institutional change through the lens of Block delivery, to help higher education institutions move from the conceptualisation of Block teaching, to its implementation. Led by De Montfort University, in collaboration with the University of South Wales and Southern Cross University, Australia, the project comprises an insights report of key findings and practical lessons institutions can take, along with a series of 12 written and video case studies from institutions around the world who have implemented Block teaching in their delivery model. As the global higher education sector continuously strives for future-focused educational strategies whilst balancing challenging pressures, many providers are embracing innovative curriculum design and delivery approaches, focused on student experience and the evolving needs and skills gaps in wider society. Employers seek graduates with vital attributes for the evolving workplace, and universities are driven to meet and exceed regulatory thresholds on continuation, completion and progression. Block delivery, emphasising focused and immersive learning experiences, is a real and practical alternative to traditional semester-based learning. Part of the Advance HE Collaborative Development Fund for 2024-25.
