Abstract
The Clouds Slow Show is part of a portfolio 'Exploring Comprovisation in Site Specific Dance Works'. The three musical works in this portfolio demonstrate innovative techniques and performance practice within the field of Sound Design for contemporary dance performance. Each work is composed/performed by musician/sound artist Barry Hill and accompanies three site specific dance works by VK Dance Collective and Roundabout Theatre Company at significant regional art festivals.
The Clouds Slow Show accompanies a dance work themed around the meaning of ‘the cloud’ in 21st Century culture. Three stilt performers carry a symbolic “black box flight recorder” prop containing a hidden Bluetooth sound system. Each performer is assigned a musical theme manipulated remotely by the composer hidden in the audience using a handheld wi fi device.
The Clouds Slow Show was commissioned by Roundabout Theatre for the 2019 Woodford Folk Festival. The performance was reviewed as ‘an intriguing curious display of human frailty and aspiration’.
