Abstract
Motor Neurone Disease (MND) is a set of progressive neurological disorders that impact motor neurones. The most common MND is amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease. Symptoms include loss of muscle strength in the hands and feet as well as in the muscles of the palate, pharynx, and larynx (Mackenzie et al., 2016). Approximately 30% of people with ALS have the bulbar-onset variety (Masrori & Van Damme, 2020), which affects both upper and lower motor neurones and primarily affects the muscles used for speech and swallowing first.
