Abstract
The Southern Cross Model (SCM) is a bold, transformative initiative that has significantly improved retention, success and satisfaction for diverse university student cohorts. The SCM reimagines higher education delivery, replacing traditional 13-week trimesters and lecture-based teaching with an immersive, blended pedagogy delivered over six-week terms. Grounded in cognitive load theory and active, inclusive pedagogies, the SCM embeds focused, guided and active learning across an institution (over 930 units) via: interactive, media-rich online modules; dialogic, practice-based teaching; and authentic assessment. The model exemplifies a scalable solution for institutions seeking to enhance student success in a changing and increasingly complex educational landscape.
