Abstract
This session will provide insight into how a university can transform its curriculum to increase student success and retention. From 2021 to 2023, a public Australian university replaced traditional 13-week trimesters with the Southern Cross Model, a 6-week immersive block model underpinned by focused, active and guided learning. Analysis of student grades over four years demonstrates a statistically significant uplift in student success in the immersive block model. Staff insights into what it takes to transform an entire institution’s delivery model, and student perspectives on the benefits and challenges of active, immersive block learning, will be discussed.
