Abstract
In this reflective piece, I explore the significance of eruptive feminist voices as an ethical imperative in educational research. As I began writing, I found myself questioning my own authority to speak on ethics, noting the discomfort and silence that often surrounds these discussions in academia. I argue that ethics are foundational to research and writing, grounding these practices in radicality and relationality. Inspired by Mary Pipher, I emphasise the importance of creating relationships based on recognition and respect. Reflecting on my personal and professional background, I illustrate how my experiences shape my understanding of ethics. I delve into the works of feminist writers like Hélène Cixous, Simone Weil, Simone de Beauvoir, Ursula K. Le Guin, and Virginia Woolf, who challenge traditional ethical frameworks and advocate for radical change. I conclude by considering Sara Ahmed’s concept of a feminist survival kit, adapting it to support radical academic research and writing practices. This kit includes tools and tips for critiquing patriarchal systems, emphasizing embodied knowledge, practicing radical writing, maintaining an ethical compass, fostering historical awareness, and grounding ethics in personal and cultural contexts. Through this exploration, I underscore the necessity of a feminist ethics of eruption in creating transformative educational research.
