Abstract
<p>Stormbirds is a small group psychosocial education program that provides an opportunity for children and young people who have experienced a natural disaster to examine the impact of this experience on their lives. Children and young people are supported by a trained adult Companion to share their experiences of change and loss in safe and creative ways, understand and attend to their feelings, and learn skills for adapting and recovering. Stormbirds is part of the Seasons for Growth suite of programs offered via MacKillop Family Services / the MacKillop Institute.</p><p>
</p>The Stormbirds program must be delivered by trained facilitators (called Companions). The Companion manual is provided to those who complete the Stormbirds training. It provides all of the session plans to run both levels of the Stormbirds program (Level 1 for children aged approximate 6-9 years and Level 2 for children/ young people aged approximately 10-14 years). Training places are often funded by sponsoring organisations, particularly following large-scale natural disasters such as the 2019-20 bushfires in Australia.
