Biography
Stephen is a Registered Nurse with clinical experience in medical-surgical, mental health and developmental disability nursing. Stephen has been a nursing academic since 1987. Throughout this time he has maintained clinical currency through regular practice in mental health nursing. Stephen is committed to the improvement of the preparation and support of nursing students and new graduate nurses in mental health nursing.
Research
In 1999 Stephen completed a Master of Nursing (Thesis) titled “New graduate nurses’ perceptions of their experience in mental health nursing”. This thesis was a longitudinal study that followed new graduate nurses in mental health settings for two years and explored their perceptions of preparation, challenge and support.
