Biography

Prof West was a scientist for 20 years with the Division of Forestry and Forest Products of the CSIRO. From 1995-1997 he was the founding Director of the Cooperative Research Centre for the Sustainable Development of Tropical Savannas in Darwin.

He left CSIRO in 1997 to teach Measuring Trees and Forests, Plantation Silviculture and Plant Physiology and Ecology in the Forestry School of Southern Cross University. He authored two textbooks, Tree and Forest Measurement and Growing Plantation Forests. He worked also as a consultant to forest owners and growers. Since his retirement at the end of 2017, he remains and Adjunct Lecturer in the Faculty of Science and Engineering of Southern Cross University.
