Biography

Dr Nicole M Ryan is a part-time Senior Research Fellow in the Faculty of Health at Southern Cross University and for the last 5 years has worked in the field of behaviour change therapy.

Research

Nicole manages all aspects of the research components of the iSISTAQUIT Scale-Up project, iSISTAQUIT mobile phone App project and SISTAQUIT RCT project. These projects support health services and health professionals through culturally-specific training for the smoking cessation care and healthy pregnancy of women carrying Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander babies.

Community engagement

As an integral part of the iSISTAQUIT team and projects Nicole actively contributes to the community engagement of NACCHO health services and health professionals, mainstream health services providing care for pregnant Aboriginal women and through established iSISTAQUIT networks such as the iSISTAQUIT Community of Practice and project advisory committees.

Supervision

During the last 20 years of University employment Nicole has supervised numerous research projects, research teams, undergraduate medical students and postgraduate students across a variety of research disciplines including respiratory medicine, toxicology and current field of smoking cessation care. Students interested in undertaking postgraduate research are encouraged to contact Nicole for supervision.

Other

Nicole was awarded a part-time NHMRC Early Career Research Fellowship in 2014 to investigate pharmacological treatments for neuropathic conditions including pain from toxins. and received the University of Newcastle Research Higher Degree Excellence Award in 2012 for her PhD thesis titled 'Laryngeal Dysfunction in Chronic Cough'
