Biography

Dr Jon Mond is Associate Professor in the Discipline of Psychological and Social Health and Course Coordinator for the Master of Professional Psychology Program. He has previously held Associate Professorships in Psychology, Sociology, Medicine and Health Sciences at various Australian Universities. Dr Mond has Honours and Masters Degrees in Psychology and a PhD in Psychological Medicine, all from the University of Sydney, and a Master of Public Health from Harvard University. For much of the past two decades, Dr Mond’s research has focused on population-based studies of the occurrence and correlates – and medicalisation – of eating and weight-control behaviours and in 2013 he was elected a Fellow of the Academy for Eating Disorders. Additionally, Dr Mond has overseen the implementation and evaluation of various community-based, mental health promotion and suicide prevention programs including the Tasmanian component of the National Suicide Prevention Trial. Since completing his PhD in 2005, Dr Mond has published some 250 papers in peer-reviewed journals and has served as Associate Editor for Journal of Mental Health, BMC Public Health and Journal of Eating Disorders. Dr Mond has supervised to completion the research projects of numerous Honours, Masters, DPsych and PhD students as well as those of a broad range of health professionals. He has coordinated and/or taught into various undergraduate and postgraduate Psychology courses, including research methods, psychological assessment, cognitive psychology and abnormal psychology. Dr Mond has been a Registered Psychologist since 1997 specialising, in private practice, in telehealth counselling for people living in rural and regional areas.
