Biography
Isabel Halse is a clinical naturopath with a private practice and has Master of Advanced Naturopathic Medicine. She works at the National Centre for Naturopathic Medicine at Southern Cross University, where her experience spans teaching, clinical supervision, outreach and engagement, and her role as Work Integrated Learning Academic Coordinator (WILAC).
Research
Through her Master's research, Isabel conducted a qualitative study exploring the role and experience of naturopaths and herbalists following the 2022 Northern NSW and South East Queensland floods. Identifying and integrating naturopathic and complementary medicine safely and effectively into disaster healthcare spaces to mitigate climate-related disaster health impacts is an area she is passionate about and plans to continue exploring.
Teaching
Isabel has taught at Southern Cross University since 2024, delivering units in Botanical Medicine, Clinical Studies, and Clinical Placement. She also supervises naturopathic students' clinical placements at SCU Health and several external placements in the community.
Community engagement
As both a Clinical Supervisor and WILAC, Isabel has sought out and established key external clinical placements that connect naturopathic students with vulnerable communities, giving students a broader, more balanced clinical experience while providing accessible naturopathic care to those who need it. One of her ongoing and successful collaborations is with Fletcher Street Cottage, a homelessness service in the heart of Byron Bay, where she has supervised a pop-up student clinic since 2025.
