Biography

Amie Steel is an internationally recognised expert in women’s health, with a particular focus on pregnancy, fertility, preconception health, and complementary medicine. She is currently ranked as the number one Traditional and Complementary Medicine researcher in Australia (2021–present).

Amie has an enduring commitment to advancing knowledge in her field and has authored more than 250 publications on complementary medicine and health promotion, including high‑impact journal articles, book chapters, and research monographs. She has attracted over $4.3 million in competitive research funding and serves as a senior, guest, or associate editor, or editorial board member, for numerous high‑profile international journals.

She has been invited as a keynote speaker, plenary presenter, and session chair at more than 20 national and international conferences across the Western Pacific, Asia, the Americas, and Europe, hosted by leading academic and industry organisations.

Adopting a transdisciplinary approach with a strong emphasis on practical outcomes, Amie’s work has driven methodological innovation in health research and informed practice and decision‑making in maternity care, nursing, social work, health social science, and women’s health. Her research has contributed to health policy reviews in Australia and has informed World Health Organization policy documents and national policies and reports in countries including Bangladesh, Germany, and the United Kingdom.

An enthusiastic teacher and research supervisor, Amie is deeply committed to supporting student learning and career development. As a public intellectual, her work has been translated into multiple languages and disseminated widely through platforms such as Wikipedia and major media outlets in more than 15 countries.
