Abstract
In July 2023, learning and teaching leaders, as well as students, from 28 higher education institutions in Australia and New Zealand gathered to discuss the state of generative AI at their institutions. This working paper highlights the progress to date in adapting to generative AI in Australian higher education; outline key values, principles, and strategies for institutions; and suggest ways for institutions to move forward in responding practically, productively, and responsibly to generative AI.
