Abstract
<p>This report is a historical study of women and outback landscapes in western New South Wales. It focuses on the south-western NSW region, with two case studies of western parks: <ul> <li>Willandra National Park</li> <li>Mungo National Park.</li> </ul></p>
<p>The report was commissioned by the the former NPWS, now part of OEH. The organisation is interested in examining the ways that national parks are presented to the public and how people respond to them. The report is part of a wider study into gendered experiences of national parks and their encompassing landscapes.</p>
<p>The report finds that women in their diversity have been active historical protagonists across outback landscapes. However, they remain marginalised and often excluded in mainstream historical interpretations and popular conceptions of outback parks.</p>
