quoll Northern Quoll Queensland Distribution Ecology
A trapping study for Northern Quolls (Dasyurus hallucatus) was conducted at Mt Moffatt section of Carnarvon National Park in May 2000. Over 454 trap nights, three quolls, eight rodents and a long-nosed bandicoot were caught. Two of the quolls (one male, one female) were caught at the Duchess and the third was caught at a bluff north of Marlong Arch. All of the quolls were less than 11 months old and in excellent condition with no ectoparasites apparent. This sample size is inadequate to determine definitively whether male die-off occurs in this population, although the age of the quolls suggests that it may. Tissue samples were taken from these quolls; these samples will be analysed later for molecular variability and differentiation from other populations of northern quolls.
