This study attempts to give an overview of the current global coastal monitoring activities, and to assess the relationship between the socio- economic and environmental indicators in the global coastal zones by using the DPSIR- framework. By estimating the exposure to hazards and its coping capacity, a Coastal Vulnerability Index has been calculated for each country to give a rough indication of its vulnerability.
