Abstract
Intrigued by the tensions found between pleasure, labour, and luxury, resort work examines travel and notions of the utopian escape. This iteration of Marian Tubbs’ assemblage-focused practice presents itself through forms of digital and analogue painting, sculpture, and installation.
resort work explores the engineered and fabricated spaces built to mimic natural ecologies or heighten the body’s experience of its surrounds. ‘How hard do we have to work to relax?’ is a broad rhetorical question evident through the exhibition that can be seen two-fold. Tubbs magnifies the perplexing nature of manufactured spaces designed for relaxation. In form, the artist presents a maximalist attention to detail to find resolution in her work.
