This paper presents the results of a project focused on using digital pens to enable teachers to create learning content, and deliver it to learners in the form of pencasts.
The level of engagement learners have with the pencasted material was analysed and compared to the traditional method of scanning PDFs to create the material. At the same time, the project developed a model of best practice for using digital pens of all varieties.
This trial sought to overcome many of the technological challenges faced by educators in delivering written notes – specifically those containing special symbols not easily rendered digitally - to provide a richer experience for the student.
The project focused on helping VET teachers who have been traditionally isolated from online delivery (because of the medium of their content) by allowing them a simple, reliable method of online content creation that works without a large investment in re-training.
