Abstract
The COVID-19 pandemic caused by the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) has presented a profound socioeconomic and health system challenges and the impacts continue to be felt globally. Compared with other coronaviruses and epidemics such as the SARS-CoV-1, MERS-CoV, and Ebola viruses which were largely localized, COVID-19 is less lethal but highly transmissible and has affected all areas of society with a potential long-term havoc.1 Although COVID-19 has swept individuals of diverse demographic traits, the emerging evidence shows certain disparities in the infection and mortality rates among population groups.
