The creative process of oral storytelling can help individuals and communities achieve positive social change by enabling questions of social responsibility through arts practice. The paper argues for the efficacy of the arts in creating a luminal space. Story telling or hearing stories told places one on a threshold between two worlds: the world of physical sense experience and the world of the story - this phenomenon of straddling two sets of consciousness is a luminal space.
