Abstract

Range extension geographical distribution rodent rock-rat Carnarvon National Park Terrestrial ecology
The Common Rock-rat is a small to medium sized rodent up to 55 grams, almost always associated with rocky outcrops. In May 2000 a trapping survey for Northern Quolls was undertaken in the Mount Moffatt section of Carnarvon National Park, QLD. A single individual juvenile male Zyzomys argurus was caught at The Duchess, a distinctive sandstone outcrop overlooking the Maranoa River. This record represents a range extension of 200 kilometres for this species.
