Abstract

Rituximab Lymphoma Leukaemia Hypersensitivity reaction Administration Clinical Nursing: Secondary (Acute Care) Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics Cancer and Related Disorders
Rituximab is a chimeric monoclonal antibody that targets the cluster of differentiation-20 cells found in patients with B-cell leukaemia or lymphoma. Rituximab is administered in conjunction with complex chemotherapy regimens to enhance probability of longer remission. However, rituximab can cause a hypersensitivity reaction due to the large cytokine release. Therefore, rituximab is administered very slowly on the first exposure.
