This article considers this question by reflecting upon a variety of elements nurses must consider when they wish to introduce primary nursing. It acknowledges undergraduate and diplomate (P2000) education in nursing and puts forward these same elements within the context of the curriculum. Nursing research is considered with regard to these elements. To conclude, the author synthesizes the goals of professional education with the professional aspiration embodied within primary nursing.
