Abstract
Cardiac surgical patients experience a higher risk of cardiac arrest than the generalhospital population, making rapid, coordinated responses critical to survival and long-termoutcomes. The Cardiac Advanced Life Support (CALS) evaluation by Mckay et al. (2026)demonstrates that participation in the CALS program improves self-rated knowledge, confi-dence, and interdisciplinary teamwork across multiple domains. This is particularly true forcomplex skills required in high-acuity scenarios, such as emergency resternotomy andresuscitation.
