This study presents a method to approximate the light distribution (directivity) of light‐emitting diodes (LEDs) based on a Gaussian distribution and an estimation technique for the total luminous flux of white LEDs. The light distribution, characterized by the half‐power angle, is approximated using a Gaussian distribution with a similar shape. The total luminous flux is estimated from the obtained approximations of the light distribution and luminous intensity provided by the specification sheets of the white LEDs.
