Over the past 2 years this editorial has examined learning theories such as experiential and action learning and practices such as workplace e-learning and communities of practice. Closely related to these concepts are social learning theories including activity theory, which are examined in this issue. The practices surrounding the related concepts of collaborative and situated learning are explored in the next issue.
