Abstract
I love stories. And so, I have been gathering and telling stories across the globe since I commenced my career in early childhood education in the late 1980s. Stories have consistently been the central focus of my teaching practice. I teach through stories. Not any story at any time. Each story with which I teach is carefully selected and crafted to address learning needs and interests at that point in time. I look to a story for the message it gives. Through this article, I will share key guiding ideas as to how I pedagogically weave cultural stories into my teaching practice. These ideas guide the choice and source of stories, and the telling and exploration of the stories. The thinking behind these ideas is informed by ethical sensibilities for intercultural understanding and more than twenty- five years of storytelling pedagogy.
