Abstract

Sporocadaceae Cupressaceae Amenity forest Biosecurity surveillance
On 12 September 2024, cypress canker symptoms were observed on a single Hesperocyparis macrocarpa (Monterey cypress, Cupressaceae) in Bombala (36° 54′ 52″ S, 149° 14′ 30″ E), New South Wales, Australia. The affected tree — one of three, mature, ornamental plantings — was mostly healthy, with uprsome symptoms of branch dieback and “flagging” restricted to the lower crown. The other two trees were unaffected. Resin discharge and cankers were observed along the stems of diseased branches, with foliage turning pale yellow or browning off at the tips. Sampled stem sections were triaged for the presence of Seiridium by looking for acervuli and typical 5-septate conidia using a dissection microscope.
