Abstract
Tobacco smoking is the most important reversible risk factor for maternal and infant health for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. This article uses the Behaviour Change Wheel to examine the factors aecting smoking cessation for pregnant Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women and suggests avenues to strengthen support. It is necessary to find innovative ways to engage and educate pregnant smokers and those of child-bearing age, improve access to existing services, build on the positive changes occurring in smoke-free homes, and provide practical assistance for smoking cessation.
