This study examined the social relations between tourists and young residents of Positano, Italy. It found that interactions with tourists give rise to a range ofemotional and behaviouralresponses among adolescents ofthe coastal resort. Ofparticularinterest was the difference between the perceptions ofthose aged 13-15 years old and those aged 16-19 years old. The latter believed tourists to have a greater affect on their current lives and expressed a desire to move away from their home town. These findings are discussed in the context ofthe literature about the psychology of adolescence.
