Abstract
Aim: To establish the energy expenditure assessment model for middle-aged people’s fitness walking and running. Methods: Eighty-two middle-aged people( 37 men,45 women) walked or run on treadmill in four different speeds, and the gas metabolism and gait parameters were measured. In this study, through the principal component analysis and other mathematical statistics, the energy expenditure assessment model for middle-aged people’s fitness walking and running was established; through multiple stepwise regressions, the prediction formula of energy expenditure for middle-aged people’s fitness walking and running was formed. Results: The assessment model of energy expenditure of walking and running for middle-aged people included two principal components and four test indicators, i.e. body shape and exercise intensity and its stress state. Body shape was measured by BMI and exercise intensity, and stress state test indicators mainly included the speed of fitness walking, running( or stride frequency, exercise heart rate( HR) and RPE. The energy consumption prediction formula of middle-aged people’s walking and running was constructed by multiple stepwise regressions. Middle-aged women: EE =-4.707+ 2.438 × Speed+0.104 × BMI +0.020 × HR +0.124 × RPE or EE =-6.599 + 0.040 × Step frequency + 0.082 ×BMI + 0.028 × HR + 0.141 × RPE; middle-aged men: EE =-9.54 + 3.381 × Speed + 0.217 × BMI + 0.007 ×HR + 0.526 × RPE or EE =-7.560 + 0.035 × Step frequency + 0.096 × BMI + 0.056 × HR + 0.131 × RPE. Conclusions: The internal and external validity and accuracy tests showed that the four formulas were effective and can be popularized and applied in the practice of energy expenditure evaluation for middle-aged people’s fitness walking and running. Among them, the accuracy of the formulas based on step frequency were higher than the two formulas based on speed, and that of the middle-aged male was the highest.
