This article addresses some of the findings from a study, which investigated the lived experiences of women nurse academics in Australia, New Zealand, the United States of America and the United Kingdom. Specifically, this article reports on the findings of the experiences of lesbian nurse academics in the study. There were 15 lesbians who participated in this research. The results revealed that lesbian nurse academics are experiencing homophobia and as a consequence were suffering emotional health effects. Emotional health disruptions were irrespective of whether they were 'visible or invisible' regarding their sexuality.
