In May/June of this year I undertook a study tour to the UK and Italy. The idea for my research was based on UNICEF's Child Friendly Cities initiative, which was launched in 1996, and which is closely allied with the 1990 United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (1990). The philosophy guiding my research was that the well being of children is the key indicator of a healthy habitat, a democratic society, and of good governance committed to children's rights.
