The issue of children's participation and its potential to contribute positively to children's lives, has captured my attention for many years. As a young and somewhat idealistic novice teacher some 30 years ago, I observed closely the dynamics and interactions in primary school classrooms to try to identify what pedagogical appreaches best recognised children and their potential as learners.
