Abstract
Dear Professor Brenda Happell,
As a life-long pediatric nurse, I am delighted to praise Sarman and Tuncay's study “Soothing venipuncture: Bubble blowing and ball squeezing in reducing anxiety, fear, and pain in children” in your most recent issue. It is well known that children experience and express pain differently than adults. It is by implementing age-appropriate pain management techniques that we can assist in alleviating pain, fear and anxiety resulting in less stress and better outcomes. Intravenous (IV) placement and venipuncture are common and painful procedures for children. Sarman and Tuncay (2024) provide statistically significant evidence supporting the effectiveness of nonpharmacological distraction techniques in minimizing pain, fear, and anxiety during these procedures. The interventions are simple, cost effective, and require no special training. I believe that creating a multimodal approach would further alleviate pediatric pain and fear.
