Abstract
Different tools and strategies are presented that would facilitate a complexity- and systems-based approach to researching healthcare provision, including mind maps, computer-generated network mappings, exploratory data analysis and computer-based network analysis. While mind maps have long been used as a case management tool, they also offer a means for researching the clinical reasoning processes of a practitioner or profession.
