Abstract

Sports Sciences

This investigation was to test the hypothesis that the mitochondrial DNA displacement loop polymorphisms (morphs) are related to the differences in maximum oxygen consumption (VO2max) and endurance performance of Australian endurance cyclists. The preliminary findings demonstrate no difference in frequency of morphs between elite and non-elite cyclists, in spite of significant differences in VO2max.
