This is a qualitative ethnographic study that investigated key factors that influenced teachers as they participated in a school-based collaborative model of professional development (PD) called ‘Learning Walks’. The data showed that teachers valued having trusting and respectful relationships between one another and with school leaders and that teachers expected to have a clear understanding of the purpose of the PD. These factors shaped teacher perception. These findings contribute to the research on Learning Walks as a form of collaborative PD and thereby can support research into and implementation of similar initiatives designed to engage teachers in school-based PD.
