Abstract
This work investigated the effects of photoperiod and hedging on the different agronomic traits of Chinese hemp cultivars in Australia. Photoperiod was identified as the key limiting factor affecting biomass and seed yield during short-day planting regimes. Results demonstrated that hedging increased branching, but did not affect seed yield or plant biomass; while differences observed in the fatty acid profiles were genotype-specific. This project highlighted the importance of selecting suitable genotypes and sowing times for successful hemp seed production. Additionally, a putative flowering time orthologue was identified as a step in identifying genetic diversity for future breeding efforts.
